Top bathroom wash basin designs

by Hazel P. July 23, 2020
written by Hazel P.

Often, humans tend to trivialize the thought process that goes into some of the interior designs we see around homes. This oversight is evident in most of the choices we end up with after purchasing these home accessories as they are mostly substandard. Bathroom fittings are one of such interior designs you should consciously make informed decisions before acquiring.

This article discusses top bathroom basin designs you should consider when making your next purchase.

Pedestal Basins.

In case you are looking for the perfect aesthetic driven design, the pedestal basin is the ideal pick. As the name suggests, the bowl is fabricated with a column-like base that serves dual purposes.

Firstly, the pedestal serves as a firm base on which the washbasin sits comfortably. It also serves as a frame structure that houses the rather exposed pipes in some other basin designs. Depending on this base’s length, they are either classified as a full pedestal or semi pedestal.

Countertop Basins.

This style of basin suits those in search of simplicity more. The countertop basins, otherwise called vessel basins, are simple designs placed atop shelves or supported by flat platforms; they also fit in well in the vanity area within the bathroom. These simple basin designs are great versatile choices as they are of different shapes and sizes. Another pro of the countertop basin is that you won’t need the services of a plumber before installation, thereby saving you the cost of service.  Peradventure, you are the type who uses a lot of water in the bathroom; these deep vessels are the best fit.

Semi-Recessed Basins.

Semi-recessed basins are creative designs for complimentary purposes in your bathroom. They have a smooth approach that flushes seamlessly with the bathroom furniture. Unlike the countertop basins, they are mostly sleek round bathroom basins designed to sit perfectly in the furniture. This innovation efficiently makes use of your bathroom space, as it combines cabinets, bathroom mirrors, and basins all in one piece.

Corner Basins.

The corner basin is yet another simple craft that puts your bathroom layout in perspective. Just as the name implies, they are designed at right angles to flush with the corner of your bathroom; the corner basins give your bathroom a compact look. They are also useful in cloakrooms as the design maximizes the little space available.

With the various styles available, you could go with designs options that allow you mount the basins on the floor. However, the common designs are those fixed to the bathroom walls.

Final Thought

The choice of bathroom accessories like the basins is such which you should consider a range of factors before acquiring. Top of the list is your bathroom layout which requires the appropriate size to create sync in your bathroom environment. Your budget is another cogent factor you should pay attention to for you to get value for your money in the long run.

Lastly, it would be best if you considered existing fixtures like toilets, bathroom furniture and showers before making your choice to ensure a seamless harmony of all your bathroom fittings.

How to Commission Your First Bronze Sculpture

by Hazel P. July 21, 2020
written by Hazel P.

Commissioning a bronze sculpture is not particularly difficult, but at the same time, it is not that simple. It is a process and you need to know how it goes. Here is a short guide on what to expect so that you can have the best possible bronze sculpture.

You need to be clear with yourself about a few important aspects. First of all, you need to be clear about what you want it to be. Do you have any particular idea of what you want, does it already exist, or you want something unique.

If you choose from a pre-existing sculpture, then you will be able to save some money. If not, then you will need a bigger budget. That depends on many factors such as the artist, the complexity of the piece, the timeline (how soon you need it done), the foundry expenses, the installation cost, and so on.

The artist

You can choose to work with an artist directly or through an art gallery. Some of them are very communicative, while others are not that much. Then some work fast, while others don’t like to be rushed.

To choose the right one, ask for their references and portfolio. Sometimes, even if they have a reputation saying that they are hard to work with, their work may be worth the trouble.

Once you select an artist, you will be asked to make a deposit which typically is around one-third of the total value of the piece. That’s just for their artwork.

The cost

The other two-thirds of the cost goes to the casting of the bronze and the installation process. Usually, they are paid in two installments. Additional surcharges are possible, but not common. The second installment is paid after the client approves the final design made by the artist. Once the second deposit is made, the sculpture is set for the foundry stage. After the third installment is complete, the sculpture is ready to be installed.

Installation

Unless you have an agreement that says otherwise, it is up to you to organize the transportation and installation. In any case, professional installation is necessary, especially if the installation is going to be exposed to the public. If that’s the case, some municipalities will ask for an engineer to analyze and inspect the site where the installation will be placed.

Maintenance

There are two ways to approach this, assumingly it is an outdoor installation. The first one is to let it be on its own, exposed to the elements. Then some feel that it is best to apply a protective coating to preserve its appearance. There is no wrong or right choice, just what you think will look better. For some installations, the rustic appearance is perfect, while others look better with a protective coating.

Copyright

Unless there is a specific prior agreement, all copyright belongs to the artist. He or she determines whether their work can be reproduced or not. The copyright protection lasts during the lifetime of the artists, plus seventy years.

Different Kinds of LED Panel Lights

by Hazel P. July 20, 2020
written by Hazel P.

LED panel lights are the ultimate replacements of fluorescent lights in homes, offices, and businesses. They are very versatile and can be used anywhere, provided they are installed properly. They are available in much brighter configurations and have a lifespan of up to 30000 hours.  In the most basic installation, LED panel lights produce large illumination, and the light is distributed and diffused evenly. In this extract, we discuss the types of LED panels lights.

Types of LED Panel Lights

The kind of panel light you choose is highly dependent on your need or lighting requirement, and the installation method you prefer. Installation can be done on the wall, ceiling, and flat surface areas. The basic installation methods include; suspension using a mounting body, ceiling or surface mounting, and recess. The common types include;

· Rectangular/ Square Panels

Most panels come in these two shapes with different dimensions. The size varies depending on your previous fluorescent installation or the current area you want it fixed, such as the ceiling grid.

· Edge-Lit Panels

It was the most popular format in the LED panel category when they were introduced to the market. As the name suggests, the LED chips are arranged on the panel’s inner edge, and the light bounces downwards through a diffuser.  Light enters through the sides and shines out from the surface. The panel tends to be more expensive and is not bright enough. It may also use slightly more power than other panels and may turn yellow after a while.

· Back-Lit Panels

The light panel has the LED chips at it back; thus, distance needs to be kept between the panel and light source. It is a bit thinner than edge-lit panels. Thus, it can be mounted on various surfaces, and light travels through less material. It is ideal for recessed mounting drop-in installation.

· Round Panels

They are often installed in suspending lighting setups. They have acrylic substances on the inside, which provides uniform light output. They are versatile, easy to install, and manage. It also produces an attractive bright light that makes it very efficient to users.

· Dimmable Led Panels

They are very flexible, therefore becoming very popular. They are equipped with a constant current driver that regulates power supply. The dimmable panels can be controlled by using a dimmer switch or a wireless method via infrared. Their ability to lower the light intensity when needed adds a soft and warm touch to a room. They can be dimmed up and down to meet the brightness requirements. They are available in different colors, but white is still the most widely used.

· RGB LED Panel

These light panels are becoming popular due to their ability to change color. They are used for creative lighting options that can be achieved by the use of remote control. Their aesthetic look makes them pieces of attraction when mounted on walls, but they can also be used on ceiling grids.

Conclusion

LED panel lights are a good choice when it comes to energy-saving and an added modern touch. They are unique, with a variety of styles; thus, customers are not limited to a single design.

The best ideas on how to get tapware for your home

by Hazel P. July 18, 2020
written by Hazel P.

Every home needs the right appliances to make it beautiful, habitable, and worthy of being lived in. It is always preferable to choose gadgets that are not only beautiful but durable and also fit for purpose.

This is also applicable when picking Tapware for your homes. The right choice can do so much in giving your home that touch of elegance and poise it deserves. Contrary to the notion that picking a tapware is as easy as learning ABC, there are certain factors to put into consideration before purchasing one.

Have a Budget:: There are different types of tapware with different prices attached to them. Before heading out to purchase one, be sure to confirm what type is suitable for your home or space. Also, they are available in different designs and prices. It is therefore important to inquire about the design and price. By doing this, you will be able to make a proper budget before purchase.

Design: Capable of being made in different designs, it would not be a surprise if you are faced with the issue of making a choice. Despite the availability of varieties of designs to select from, certain designs are made for specific spaces in the home.

For instance, a tapware suitable for the kitchen may not be suitable for a bathroom basin. Most times, the design will determine the proper space that the tapware is meant for.

Material: Various materials can be used to make tapware. Brass is the most common type of material used for taps. This is because it makes amazing finished products, giving it a shiny outlook. However, these materials contain lead and arsenic on the inside  which will be harmful over time to the environment.

Another ‘go-to’ material that can be used is stainless steel. It is very durable and produces fine finishes. It is advisable to go for a higher grade of stainless steel to guarantee more durability.

Also,  matte black material can be used. This gives your home a very beautiful and modern look but this material may likely fade over time and may need to be replaced. Whatever your choice is, it is necessary to consider the type of material before making a purchase.

Patronize Reliable Tapware Enterprises: It is easy to get a tapware in any retail shop because running water is very important in a home. This is why you will always find an enterprise or stall that sells household appliances like tapware.

Once you have made the decision to make a purchase, confirmed your preferred design and material, you should ensure that you do not buy from just any enterprise. The reason is that just like any other product, there is every possibility of purchasing a sub-standard material.

Putting all these factors into consideration will guarantee that your choice on an ideal tapware for your home will become a reality.

Which is better quartz vs granite countertops

by Hazel P. April 27, 2020
written by Hazel P.

Quartz and Granite are the most popular and luxurious countertop options. but quartz vs granite, which is better? Granite countertops have been the darling of many homeowners and interior designs. Quartz, on the other hand, has proven to be a popular alternative for granite.

But, how do these two countertop materials compare to each other? What sets them apart?

Below are features to help you choose between Quartz v Granite countertops for your home.

Attractiveness and Style

There is no doubt that quartz and granite countertops are best. Nevertheless, there are underlying features that make them different and unique. Granite countertops are made from natural stone and this is what makes them the perfect option if you are looking for natural colors and durability.

Quartz countertops are engineered surfaces made from natural quartz and polyresin. Nonetheless, the countertops made from Quartz are incredibly attractive and come in different color variations and patterns. Since it is engineered the color combinations fit well with any style.

Care and Maintenance

Granite countertops in all their glory have one major downfall. They are porous since the granite is extracted from a natural rock. Due to this, granite countertops need to be resealed whenever they crack or chip to retain is aesthetics. On the good side, they are heat, stain, and scratch-resistant meaning they have a low maintenance cost and are long-lasting.

As for Quartz countertops, they are nonporous due to them being engineered a key factor that separates them from Granite countertops. Nonetheless, they are susceptible to excessive heat. So, if you decide to install it, avoid putting on the hot pots and hot metallic items as the resin will melt and damage the surface extensively.

Where to Place the Countertop

Quartz and granite differ when it comes to how they are affected by natural light. Granite countertops are not affected by natural light hence cannot fade unless it has been coated with resin. As for quartz countertops, they are affected by natural UV light and will fade over time mainly due to the degradation of the resin.

So, how do work your way around this problem? Place your quartz countertops in areas where they have no direct exposure to the UV sunlight. If it is not possible, you can install windows with the UV blocking capabilities to protect it.

Overall, this distinguishing feature makes quartz unsuitable for outdoor settings, unlike granite which can withstand the UV rays.

Installation Area and Seaming

Both granite and quartz countertops require a professional to install them. Still, they differ when it comes to the size of the area they are being installed on. Quartz countertop slabs have a standard size of no more than 65 inches making them inappropriate for large countertops area.

On the other hand, Granite countertop slabs are easy to work with on a large area as some can measure up to 70 Inches wide hence no need for seaming. If seaming is necessary, then a quartz countertop is the best option. With dark or solid color and a qualified professional, the seam will not be obvious.

It is important to note that granite countertops are not suitable where seaming is required.

How bathroom vanities help in the management of small space

by Hazel P. April 21, 2020
written by Hazel P.

Bathroom vanities deserve all the accolades they have been getting in recent years because among household items; they stand truly industrious. There are very few in-house pieces of furniture that can compare with this household piece, and this is owing to their versatility. Of the many things they are useful for, one of the most outstanding is how much they influence management, especially in limited space.

This article brings you the ways in which bathroom vanities can be useful in the management of small space, have fun reading.

1. They are made for Utility

Many bathroom vanities are made complete with add-ons that are there for convenience, but more importantly, to improve storage options. Such add-ons include;

  • Cabinet

Bathroom vanities, irrespective of size or shape, often feature a cabinet, and this serves as storage space. The number of closets in your vanity can be as low as one or as many as you want. The more you can fit under the sink, the better because you get more uses out of the already carved-out space.

  • Drawers

Drawers and cabinets often go hand-in-hand when it comes to bathroom vanities. The former is usually smaller compared to the latter, and they are designed that way to offer the owner different-sized compartments for maximum storage.

  • Mirror

Another essential and definitely most attractive part of a bathroom vanity is the mirror. Besides their obvious purpose, mirrors can also create the impression of an expanse in space if the lights hit them right. The best part is, they are always situated above the vanity, which means they don’t have to take up already limited space beneath.

2. They can be made to fit

No matter how small your bathroom is, you can always get a vanity that fits. If, for some reason, you don’t get the right size for your space, there is no need to panic because you can as well have one custom-made. Based on the available space, you can then determine what type of vanity works best for you, and the storage options you prefer.

3. You can mount them

If your bathroom is small and you cannot afford the more traditional freestanding style of vanities, you can as well save space by hanging yours on a wall. This reduces traffic on the ground, and the area underneath can still be put to good use.

4. A storage bin can go under them

If you’re not much of a minimalist, one way to put the space underneath your mounted vanity to good use is by placing another storage unit there. This unit could be a bin or box, whatever works for you. Fortunately, storage baskets and boxes also come in different sizes and shapes, so finding one that fits shouldn’t be hard.

Final Thought

Having a beautiful, well-organized bathroom isn’t a luxury reserved for those with large spaces alone. Vanities, if done right, can help anyone manage their available space, no matter how small. The article above elucidates some of the ways in which your bathroom vanity can help maximize your small space.

Four Kitchen Tools to Include In Your Restaurant

by Hazel P. April 9, 2020
written by Hazel P.

Running a restaurant is a hard task, especially if you don’t have a functional kitchen that you can rely on. If you watched a lot of Gordon Ramsay shows, you should know by now that one of his main kitchen criticisms is not having functional kitchen equipment. There’s a lot of things that you can miss in setting up a kitchen, especially if you’re new in the industry. Continue reading to find out the importance of a great kitchen and what components are needed to have one.

Importance of a functional kitchen in business

There’s a lot of reasons why Gordon Ramsay gets angry when you serve him food from the Microwave: and one of these reasons is a dysfunctional kitchen. If you’re always serving microwaved goods, it means that your food menu is always frozen and not as tasty compared to freshly made food.

A functional kitchen not only allows chefs to make better food in a faster and more accurate manner. Functional kitchens also enable customer satisfaction and a lesser probability of food contamination. Here are some of the things you need to have a smooth kitchen workflow.

Four must-have kitchen equipment for professionals

1. Good workstation kitchen sink

A good Workstation kitchen sink is a must if you want an efficient workflow. Continuous cooking means the cooks will also need constant cleaning of cooking equipment. If the kitchen sink can’t handle the regular beating and usage, hot or water, and possible scratches, your cooks might find themselves in disarray every morning.

2. Spacious counters and storage area

Cooking is a very demanding job. There is always a constant need for chopping spices, cutting vegetables and meat, and more. Chances are, there is always one or two cooks that need to get into chopping. Waiting for the counter to clear out is a waste of precious kitchen time. Hence, a spacious counter a necessity in every kitchen.

In addition to spacious counters, you must also consider getting a good storage area. Not all materials are being used each day. Efficient storage gives more shelve life to the food. It also prevents any food contamination from happening, which can be deadly depending on circumstances.

3. Commercial oven and small appliances

Appliances and oven make cooking easier and less time-consuming. Make sure that your cooks have basic appliances like food processors and mixers for fast food turnover and a better experience (for both your cooks and the customers). The appliances you should get depends on the food available on your menu.

4. Lighting and positioning

And last but not least, the lighting and positioning of this equipment should be considered in building a kitchen. One of the most annoying things in the kitchen the lights are dim, and the cooks keep bumping into each other because of small spaces. Getting a wide space and dependable lighting makes it easier for the cooks to carry on with their tasks in the kitchen.

Simple Steps to Create a Bathroom Vanities Using an Old Cabinet

by Hazel P. March 15, 2020
written by Hazel P.

Buying bathroom vanities in Sydney can be quite confusing with lots of sizes, shapes, and designs to choose from. If you have an old vintage cabinet at home, you don’t have to buy a new one as you can convert your old cabinet into a stylish bathroom vanity.

Just follow the simple steps below:

  • Remove Top and Strengthen the Frame

Remove the top of the old cabinet by unscrewing it. Using an electric screwdriver, strengthen the cabinet by placing a long screw in the middle of the frame.

  • Measure and Trim the Sub top

Accurately measure the top of the cabinet and then remove it. After that, trim the sub-top out using plywood as a replacement to the original top.

  • Remove the Rear Part of the Cabinet and Strengthen the New Frame

Use a screwdriver and hammer to remove the back part. Next, cut a piece of board to the height of the exterior of the cabinet. Position the board parallel to the cabinet’s support beam. Position the new support beam at the center front of the cabinet to provide more space for the sink and drawers.

  • Take Out the Original Support Beams and Place the Sub top

With a saw, remove the vertical beam at the back of the cabinet, and the one that runs parallel to the bottom. Then, screw the new sub-top of the cabinet with the use of the C-clamp to keep it in position. Underneath the sub-top, glue and staple pieces of wood.

  • Cut and Change the Drawers

When creating drawers, use a saw and cut out the shape. Cut a frame to support the drawer. Make sure that the height is similar to the existing drawer. This will create useful drawers. Glue and attach the frame to the drawers. Follow the same procedure for all the drawers.

  • Put the Cabinet Back and Create Holes

Replace the back of the cabinet with an electric screwdriver. Mark the position for pipes at the back of the cabinet. Create a hole that is big enough to accommodate the size of the pipes.

  • Paint

If you want to change the original color of the cabinet, you can paint it with your preferred color. Also, you can apply a sealer to the present finish. When done painting, position the vanity in an area where it will be installed and support it with screws.

  • Create a Hole For the Sink

Measure the size of the sink and then cut out a hole. Then, follow the guide in installing the sink. When making the hole, scale saw is very helpful. Then place the all-in-one countertop and sink. Use adhesive to attach the vanity sub-top.

  • Install the Faucet and Handles

In installing the faucet and handles, follow the installation guide to avoid any mistake in placing them. It is best to mark the areas where you will put the faucet and the handles.

  • Caulk the Seam and Clean Up

To ensure there is no leak, make sure to caulk the seam in removing the excess caulk use a straight blade. Using a rag with acetone can also help in cleaning up any residue. Call a professional to attach the pipes to your new fixtures.

Our Best Stone-based Countertops- Choosing the Best

by Hazel P. December 31, 2019
written by Hazel P.

Any time you think of natural stone countertops, you must think marble as well as granite. There are, of course, numerous varieties of such stone-based countertops. Every option has its pros and cons. So, whether you are just remodeling the kitchen space or bathroom, or the wet bar basement, you need to compare all existing options of natural stone in the market. It would help if you also were better placed to pick one that better suits your needs.

Here is a quick comparison of the best options on the market.

Deciding the material that’s best for your remodel needs comes down to your specified needs. In the real sense, you should have a budget that is critical to making your selection. It would help if you also weighed in on the durability and maintenance of the natural stones altogether. Here are a couple of things you need to look at.

Every time you think about stone countertops, what leaps into your mind the ubiquitous squares often are separated by grout lines tore out of the last kitchen when you last remodeled the space. Of course, the pieces may have been a hassle to clean, followed by a relatively unattractive retro project.

You might have decided to replace the said surfaces with various natural stone slabs such as granite if you renovated before the housing crash. You may also have decided to renovate using engineered stone, which is also often known as quartz. Therefore, learning more about tile countertops may obviously come as a surprise as they are making a huge comeback- this is in a way that has never been witnessed.

Countertops

Features and benefits

If you look at the countertops industry, a lot has emerged over the past three years. This is mainly from sectors in Spain and Italy where there are oversized porcelain slabs similar to granite, wood, linen, in addition to other natural stone materials you may want. Just as the competitive quartz as well as solid surface such as Corian materials, it is clear that porcelain slab slots are known to be nonporous. They are therefore safe and a healthy option for the preparation of food. Unlike the two materials, we have stated earlier, though, porcelain can easily be installed outside.

  • Granite and its characteristics– This is a well-known choice for natural stone. It provides high-heat as well as scratch resistance coupled with harsh chemicals. This should not etch the surface. Granite is also easy to maintain. It needs sealing only once every other year. Therefore, if you intend to have natural stone, this is your best option. Besides, granite comes in various colors as well as patterns, including others that have taken the marble look. Cost-wise, granite is budget-friendly. It adds value to a home.
  • Choosing the Right Marble for Your Needs– Marble is a natural stone. It is not just an elegant stone but heat resistant too. But when it comes to making the right selection of stone countertops, you may realize that if not correctly sealed, it could be prone to stains. You would not clean it using harsh chemicals as well since the surface will etch away. Maintenance is important. It is in-depth. For that reason, you should pick marble if you are in a position to keep up with that maintenance. Lastly, patterns are well as colors are slightly harder to find in sculpture. Therefore, you won’t have plenty of choices.
  • Solid Surface– Evidently, the solid surface looks just like natural stone. It is made of acrylic resins. Although you may find it in various colors too, it does not hold up as ideally as natural stone countertops, particularly for heat or harsh weather conditions. But one aspect you will like about this stone surface is how affordable it is.

In Closing

You can now find your ideal natural stone countertop in our office. Whether you need granite countertops, quartz, and marble, or just want to spruce your kitchen with the butcher block, we have the choices to complete your remodel successfully. Feel free to visit our showrooms to take a look. Happy shopping!

Tips on materials for bathroom vanities to choose from

by Hazel P. December 5, 2019
written by Hazel P.

The growth of the interior design industry has made it possible for homeowners to transform their visions for their dream homes into reality. The industry has evolved from designing living spaces and other large spaces in the houses to areas like bathrooms. One of the most common considerations in interior design for bathrooms is installation or building of bathroom vanity sets.

Every homeowner currently looks to have a bathroom vanity in their bathroom as it tends to improve the aesthetic value of the bathroom. When building a bathroom vanity, several factors have to be considered. One of the most crucial factors includes the material of the bathroom vanity unit as following bathroom vanity bunnings.

But note, the material used for bathroom vanity top sets tends to differ from the material used to make the rest of the vanity.

Materials used to make vanity tops

  • Granite

This is the most common material used for vanity tops and the tops of other countertops in the bathroom. Granite is attractive, easy to clean, available in a variety of colors, patterns and styles, and enduring hence durable. While very efficient and desirable granite material tends to be very costly.

  • Quartz

Quartz is also a popular material for vanity tops as it is very durable, waterproof, resistant to stains and bacteria and does not require sealing. The material is also available in a variety of colors and patterns. While very costly, the material is also costly.

  • Marble

Marble is an exquisite material, durable, and luxurious. Like the initial two, it is also very costly.

  • Concrete

While concrete may not be one of the accessible materials used in bathroom vanities countertops, it is a stylish, durable, and versatile material. It is also more cost-efficient than some of the more common materials

Materials used to make bathroom vanities

  • Particleboard

This material is made from combining particles of wood using glue before heating them and pressing them into sheets. This material is durable, cost-efficient, and can be customized to the users’ pleasure.

  • Plywood

This is an attractive material that comes in varying levels of thickness and quality. When coated with plastic, plywood is very durable and beautiful. However, the material may not finish well.

  • Solid hardwood

This is one of the most sustainable forms of wood in the market as it is made from oak (a reliable type of tree). The material is porous, durable, can withstand humidity, and is attractive. Solid hardwood is, however, expensive.

  • Medium-density fiberboard

This material is not one of the most popular in the industry. While it is beautiful, it cannot withstand humidity as it expands and contracts to cause the paint to crack when exposed to moisture. It is, however, the cheapest on the list.

Final word

When choosing the type of material to use for your bathroom vanity unit, it is essential to consider the cost of the material, its durability, ability to withstand humidity, aesthetic value, and the ease at which you can clean the material. The uniqueness of the material is also a factor to consider.
